A few photos from the Ukranian festival this afternoon at St. Vlad’s Ukranian Orthodox Church on State Rd. (in the heart of my Parma ‘hood).

The inside of the church showing the iconostasis (icon screen) in front of the altar

Music from the Carpathian Folk Quartet inside the social hall (with my friend Walt Mahovlich on accordian and Alexander Fedoriouk on cimbalom)

Some tasty Uki beer (things get a little fuzzy at this point…)

Carbin’ it up at the fest (actually, that’s my godkid doin’ the carbin’) with some of the best damn pierogies in the state, handcrafted by legions of little old Ukranian women and for sale at the church year round.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ve come to love Ukis and their culture largely through a deep enjoyment of a favorite Canadian uncle, Uncle Mike, who married my Italian aunt, who’s really a cousin, I think (you know how that goes). Anyway, he’s so lively, funny, full of life and the dickens that I’ve come to assume that all Ukranians are like Mike.
