Got a letter in the mail today. Goes a little something like this:

Dear Milenko Budimir, (Oh, hi there, Mr. Chase Credit Card Company… Financial Services… Big… Company… Person… er, Entity)

We want to be your number one credit card. (I see. Go on…) We noticed that you recently made a large payment to your account (umm… yeah. It’s called paying off my credit card debt so I don’t have to pay any more finance charges at the entirely reasonable 8.99% rate you charge me to borrow money. Why? Is there a problem?) We want to make sure we’re not losing your business. (Oh! I get it! You think I’m going to do something foolish like pay off my debt and make purchases with cash, or spend within my means, or, God forbid, try to be rational in my spending habits, is that it? How silly of me!)

Then they go on to offer me 0% APR for balance transfers, cash advances, and what seems like the balance I already have.

I thought credit card companies were supposed to hound you when you don’t make your payments, not when you do!

Oh the times they are a changin’…
