A good place to dry off was the Fortune of War, Sydney’s oldest pub dating from 1828.

The place was a good mix of local folks and tourists, although the locals dominated on the night we were there. A few pints of Toohey’s Old Black Ale went down well. But the most bizarre part was the 4-piece band playing New Orleans style ragtime with an 80-year old lady on vocals! When you hear Mozart’s “Rondo Alla Turka” played ragtime style in a Sydney pub, you’ve pretty much heard it all.
